Mrs. Yuan Sundman 
Founder of Harwood Music School

Mrs. Yuan Sundman started learning the piano at age of 4, and is now an experienced pianist and piano teacher. She has won numerous national and international prizes, including the first prizes at the Kuleshov International Piano Competition and MTNA–Stecher and Horowitz Two-Piano Competition. She has performed in several countries including Italy, Russia, China, Hong Kong, and the U.S. In 2018 and 2020, she played Liszt Concertos no. 1 and no. 2 with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and TCU Symphony Orchestra at Ed Landreth Hall in Fort Worth.

Mrs. Sundman's teaching experience includes group classes and private lessons for students from age 4 to adult. Mrs. Sundman always creates a positive learning environment and cultivates students' learning processes during the lessons. Mrs. Sundman is a TCU alumnus from which she holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance. She was awarded a full scholarship and Graduate Assistantship during her studies. 
Anna li

Ms. Anna Li 
Pianist & Piano Instructor 

Displaying an affinity for the piano at a young age, Australian pianist Anna Li has achieved top honors in competitions both nationally and internationally. Among these awards are the International Russian Music Piano Competition, VIVO-S International Music Competition, and Golden Medal in the Berliner International Music Competition.

She has performed extensively across the world with appearances in America, Austria, Spain, Denmark, and China. In her home country of Australia, she has notably been invited to perform at the Parliament House and the celebration of the Beijing Olympics Grand Opening Ceremony.

Anna pursued most of her education abroad in the United States, having studied at several renowned institutions. These include The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, and Peabody Institute. Outside of piano playing and teaching, Anna also enjoys writing and recently had her work featured in the book " A Number of Letters" by Finding Bohemia.

Mr. Maxim Kudaev

Born in Moscow, Mr. Kudaev studied at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with esteemed professor Vladimir Ovchinnikov. Currently, he is completing his Artist Diploma program at TCU.

He is the prizewinner of the International and Russian Music Competitions, and he has participated in festivals including PianoTexas International Festival in Texas, "Noche en Madrid" in Madrid, Spain, and "Merignac Musicopen" in Merignac, France. Mr. Kudaev is experienced in teaching students with intermediate to advanced levels.

Mr. Joe (Quanzhou) Yan
Pianist & Piano Instructor

Besides teaching, Mr. Yan is also active in giving performances and participating in competitions. His recent awards include winning top prizes at the "Semper Music International Competition" in Italy, the "National Bakhchiyeva Piano Competition" and "The Way Towards Mastery" competition in Russia. In the U.S., Mr. Yan has won the south-central division of the Music Teachers National Association's (MTNA) Young Artist Performance competition for two years in a row (2020 and 2021).

Mr. Yan completed his undergraduate study at the Rostov State Rachmaninov Conservatory in Russia in Piano Performance. He later completed his master's degree in piano performance at TCU where he received pedagogy training under Dr. Gipson. He is continuing his studies at TCU where he is working on his doctorate in piano performance. Mr. Yan is always very passionate about the music, but patient with his students. 


Ms. Maria Santos
Pianist & Piano Instructor


Ms. Santos graduated from Lawrence University with her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a Minor in Piano Pedagogy. She has considerable performance experience having appeared in solo recitals, at international music festivals in Canada and Italy, and for studio recitals on campus and in the community. She also enjoys collaborative performance and has performed with the Lawrence Symphonic Band and in chamber concerts at the Saarburg International Music Festival in Germany.

Ms. Santos has actively pursued her passion for teaching and has experience both with college-age students and children. She has taught lessons through the Lawrence Academy of Music and the TCU Preparatory Lab Program, as well as an introductory piano course for college-age students at TCU. As a teacher, Ms. Santos commits to crafting a learning-rich environment in which students discover and grow musically through problem-solving and creative activities. 

Mr. Junyoung Hwang
Pianist & Piano Instructor

Pianist Junyoung Hwang was born in South Korea and he has been teaching students since 2013. Mr. Hwang was selected as a pianist for the ‘Dream Project’ by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affair, where he visited India and Laos to share his talent. Besides, Mr. Hwang also gives masterclasses.

Mr. Hwang was a bronze medalist in the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition, he won the first prize at more than 20 piano competitions. He had successful debut concerts at Busan Arts Center and Bryans Symphony Concert Hall in Russia with Bryansk Symphony. He also had numerous solo and collaborative concerts at Youngsan Arts Center, KCC Concert Hall, Sejong Arts Center, Young-Cheon Arts Center, Ulsan Arts Center, Geum-Jeong Arts Center, KNUA Hall, Yeonse-Sevrance Hospital, New Delhi School of Music, Korean Cultural Center India, Universal Arts Center, The_Studio, Seoul National University Concert Hall, PepsiCo hall, Ed Landreth Hall, and Laos National School of Arts.

Ms. Huan Yang 
Pianist & Piano Instructor

Ms. Yang has extensive experience teaching piano to a wide range of levels, including college students. Ms. Yang has also made public performance appearances at music festivals in the U.S., Israel, and China. Locally, she performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto with the Texas Christian University (TCU) Symphony Orchestra as a winner of TCU’s concerto competition. 

Ms. Yang holds a master's degree in piano performance from Northwestern University and an Artist Diploma in Piano Performance from TCU. Presently, she is working on her doctorate in piano performance at TCU.

Mr. Jason Wang 
Viola & Violin Instructor


As a Licensed Suzuki Teacher, Mr. Wang holds a Master's degree in Viola Performance. Mr. Wang played as the principal chair at TCU symphony orchestra and performed in chamber music and music festivals at Texas Christian University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Mr. Wang has about 15 years of experience in playing in orchestras and he is a licensed Suzuki method teacher. Mr. Wang loves music in different styles and from a variety of genres.
