Mrs. Yuan Sundman

Mrs. Yuan Sundman started learning the piano at age of 4, and is now an experienced pianist and piano teacher. She has won numerous national and international prizes, including the first prizes at the Kuleshov International Piano Competition and MTNA–Stecher and Horowitz Two-Piano Competition. She has performed in several countries including Italy, Russia, China, Hong Kong, and the U.S. In 2018 and 2020, she played Liszt Concertos no. 1 and no. 2 with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and TCU Symphony Orchestra at Ed Landreth Hall in Fort Worth.

Mrs. Sundman’s teaching experience includes group classes and private lessons for students from age 4 to adult. Mrs. Sundman always creates a positive learning environment and cultivates students’ learning processes during the lessons. Mrs. Sundman is a TCU alumnus from which she holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance. She was awarded a full scholarship and Graduate Assistantship during her studies.

Ms. Flora Lu

Ms. Lu is an award-winning piano instructor who has had over 15 years of professional experience. In 2010, she received her B.M. (Bachelor of Music) in Piano Performance from Taiwan’s Shih Chen University.  She then studied on scholarship at the Cleveland Institute of Music, completing a double M.M. (Master of Music) in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano in 2015.  Flora is currently working on her D.M. (Doctor of Music) in Collaborative Piano at the University of North Texas.  Since 2006, she has taught students of all ages, ranging from age 4 to those studying on a collegiate level.  Flora is excited to start teaching here at Harwood Music Studio in December 2021!

Piano, Composition, and Theory Instructor

Mr. Iman Khajehzadeh

Composer and pianist Iman Khajehzadeh holds master’s degree in music composition and theory from the University of North Texas. Since 2002, he has taught students of different age groups and diverse sociocultural backgrounds. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with schools, institutions, and universities, teaching topics such as piano, classical guitar, music theory, and music appreciation. His music has been selected and performed by music festivals in the US, Europe, and Asia.

Khajehzadeh’s teaching philosophy is influenced by science-based methodologies. He, who also had training in psychology, has studied and experienced various methods and perspectives in music education and devised a cognitive-developmental approach to teaching music. This approach is based on the scientific study of human development, mainly the works of Jean Piaget, the French psychologist. Since 2016, Khajehzadeh has practiced the above approach with his students and seen the high efficacy of the approach, particularly in children and adolescents.

Ms. Sarah Bryan

Ms. Bryan started her teaching at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Houston, then moved to DFW and has been teaching here. She has her Associate’s in Music from San Jacinto College, where she won the Clara Freshour Nelson Scholarship that helped to fund her education when she transferred to Texas Christian University, where she was named a Provost Scholar and later given a position as a Music Ambassador. At TCU she has organized and is the president of the promotional team for the piano program and also holds a position as Website Manager for PianoTexas, one of the world’s oldest and largest piano festivals. She is pursuing her Bachelor’s in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Mr. John Owings, and also studies under Dr. Ann Gipson in Piano Pedagogy, where she gives group music lessons to young children and conducts research into professional piano teaching.

Mr. Jacob VonDeylen

Mr. VonDeylen began teaching in the Houston, Texas area as a private piano instructor five years ago, teaching students of all ages and abilities. While in Houston, he worked as an accompanist/music teacher for several musical cabaret camps for children and adolescents, and as an on-call accompanist for several music teachers in the area. He has collaborated with many musicians and was in charge of leading bands for numerous full-scale productions. He has also been working as a church organist/pianist since the age of 14 at several different locations.

Mr. VonDeylen was awarded the Dean’s scholarship and several other piano scholarships for his bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy at TCU. At TCU, he studies piano pedagogy under the instruction of Dr. Ann Gipson and teaches private piano lessons and group music lessons with TCU’s Preparatory Lab Program.

Violin, Viola, and Double Bass Instructor

Mr. Peng Wang

After receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in double bass performance, Mr. Peng completed his Artist Diploma Certificate from TCU in 2012. His previous studies include violin and viola from universities such as TCU and Shenyang Conservatory of Music in China. Currently, Mr. Wang is a doctoral student at TCU majoring in double bass performance.

Mr. Peng has had extended teaching experience over the years. Besides serving as an adjunct double bass instructor at Texas Wesleyan University, Mr. Peng has helped students to prepare for auditions for the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra.

Ms. Anna Li

Displaying an affinity for the piano at a young age, Australian pianist Anna Li has achieved top honors in competitions both nationally and internationally. Among these awards are the International Russian Music Piano Competition, VIVO-S International Music Competition, and Golden Medal in the Berliner International Music Competition.

She has performed extensively across the world with appearances in America, Austria, Spain, Denmark, and China. In her home country of Australia, she has notably been invited to perform at the Parliament House and the celebration of the Beijing Olympics Grand Opening Ceremony.

Anna pursued most of her education abroad in the United States, having studied at several renowned institutions. These include The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, and Peabody Institute. Outside of piano playing and teaching, Anna also enjoys writing and recently had her work featured in the book " A Number of Letters" by Finding Bohemia.

Ms. Huan Yang

Ms. Yang has extensive experience teaching piano to a wide range of levels, including college students. Ms. Yang has also made public performance appearances at music festivals in the U.S., Israel, and China. Locally, she performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto with the Texas Christian University (TCU) Symphony Orchestra as a winner of TCU’s concerto competition. 

Ms. Yang holds a master’s degree in piano performance from Northwestern University and an Artist Diploma in Piano Performance from TCU. Presently, she is working on her doctorate in piano performance at TCU.

Mr. Joe (Quanzhou) Yan

Besides teaching, Mr. Yan is also active in giving performances and participating in competitions. His recent awards include winning top prizes at the “Semper Music International Competition” in Italy, the “National Bakhchiyeva Piano Competition” and “The Way Towards Mastery” competition in Russia. In the U.S., Mr. Yan has won the south-central division of the Music Teachers National Association’s (MTNA) Young Artist Performance competition for two years in a row (2020 and 2021).

Mr. Yan completed his undergraduate study at the Rostov State Rachmaninov Conservatory in Russia in Piano Performance. He later completed his master’s degree in piano performance at TCU where he received pedagogy training under Dr. Gipson. He is continuing his studies at TCU where he is working on his doctorate in piano performance. Mr. Yan is always very passionate about music, but patient with his students. 

Viola & Violin Instructor

Mr. Jason Wang

As a Licensed Suzuki Teacher, Mr. Wang holds a Master’s degree in Viola Performance. Mr. Wang played as the principal chair at TCU symphony orchestra and performed in chamber music and music festivals at Texas Christian University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Mr. Wang has about 15 years of experience in playing in orchestras and he is a licensed Suzuki method teacher. Mr. Wang loves music in different styles and from a variety of genres.
